CASE STUDY ON RESERVATION SYSTEM

 1-what is Reservation System?

To answer that in simple words , some people are getting advantages in various fields on the basis of caste not merit.

Then the first question that come to our mind is how it all started?

2- Origin of Caste System?

According to Rig Veda all the tiers of varna system are originate after disintegration of body parts of Lord Brahma, the top most (Brahmins)-symbolise Lord Brahma's head, kshatriyas- symbolise Brahma's hand .

Vaishyas, or the traders, were created from his thighs. At the bottom were the Shudras, who came from Brahma’s feet.

Previously it was also decided on the basis of work that they do and it was more fluid but as the time passed specially after the invasion of Britishers it became more rigid ..

3 How it works?

Reservation in India is provided to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) at the rate of 15%, 7.5% and 27%, respectively, in case of direct recruitment on all India basis by open competition.
Before 2019, the reservation was provided mainly on the basis of social and educational backwardness (caste). However, after the 103rd constitutional amendment in 2019, economic backwardness is also considered.

4 Impact of Reservation system?(output vs outcomes )

Do you know about creamy layer theory ?

To answer that in lay man's term , it is used in politics to describe the backward section of the society , as some people believe that they don't deserve what they get from the reservation system . But many surveys proved these theory wrong for example a survey conducted in Indian Railway (1980-2002) showed that it has increased the efficiency.

  #   In the central Administrative Services , SCs reached 14 percent of the class C in 1984

 #   They reached 14.3 percent of class B in 2003.

 #    In class C 13.3 percent in 2015.

#.   In the Central Public Enterprises (CPSEs), their proportion rose from 14.6 percent in 2004 to 18.1 percent in 2014.

#.    In parallel , the SCs literacy rate jumped from 21.38 percent in 1981 to 66.1 percent in 2021

#.     In 2013 OBCs-52 percent pf India's population according to the Mandal report- represented 8.37 percent of the class A in the Central Government Services, 10.01 percent of class B and 17.98 percent of class C.

#.     Their percentage in the CPSEs jumped from 16.6 percent in 2004 to 28.5 percent in 2014.

But the main question that arises has it really helped ?There is no doubt that unequals should not be treated equally. However is the current System of unequal treatment perfect? Is it creating more justice? Is it the only way out in a welfare-nation? It's time to introspect.

5 CONCLUSION(MY POV)

If we focus on the outcomes more rather than the claims made by the politicians then we can reach a conclusion,
still in many parts of society conditions are not improved . So all this was a waste?-No but this policy seems more like a marketing tool for the politicians .

Reservation based entirely on caste is not all in one solution it may be one of the parameters but it is not sufficient. Also it's time to fix the time period of reservation rather than extending it to eternity. Reform in the Reservation system is the need of hour.

#"Reservation based on the economic criteria ". There may be a chance that the condition of a general caste is worse than a reserved one so we should not blindly give the privileges. we should rethink the whole  process, we should check the background of the candidate whether he/she really needs an advantage.

According to me we youth play a vital role in this .we are the future we should be aware of what is happening in our country and how it slowly destroys our country .Education is one this which can save our country and if we mix this with politics then our country is done for sure.

so it is the high time to rebuilt the reservation system rather than following a discriminatory system ....
